J-Visas is a reader-first destination for independent science fiction and fantasy.

Not author platform. Not aggregator. A place to think seriously about what indie SFF is doing right now — the trends shaping it, the stories driving it, and where the genre is heading.

Most coverage of science fiction and fantasy runs in two modes: the breathless fan site or the industry newsletter. J-Visas sits somewhere else. It applies the habits of literary critical thinking to a genre that deserves more of it.

I’m a working author who reads widely in indie SFF. I live in Japan, which gives a particular vantage point on how genre fiction travels across markets and cultures. The Japan connection is real, but J-Visas is not a Japan content site. It is a global genre site.

This site publishes a weekly Zeitgeist Report — a synthesis of what’s happening in indie sci-fi and fantasy. Craft, market, trends, publishing deals, adaptation news, and the occasional sharp opinion. The archive builds into a resource for anyone who takes the genre seriously.
